Medicine Bags & Misc
A medicine bag is a sacred pouch traditionally worn around the neck and used to carry significant items such as small crystals, rocks, herbs etc. Practitioners may place personally significant items and items for use in their healing practice in their medicine bag. If you are not a practitioner you can still use the bag for items significant for you, for example: something to represent your power animal or guides; an item representing a personal significant moment for you; something that represents something you wish to develop or happen. If something falls out of your bag or gets lost don’t worry as it has probably already served you. You may like to smudge new items before you add them to your bag.
Our deerskin medicine bags are handmade by Sylvia Jackson and other women of the Navajo Nation (Din'eh), USA. Our wholesaler trades directly with this artist to make sure she receives a fair price for her work.
Deerskin is the traditional leather for medicine bags and these bags are made from soft quality leather with an excellent finish. A bead sits at the top of the bag made from blown glass which slides allowing you to open the bag and put in it whatever small precious items you wish to carry. The bear symbol is made from wood. You can adjust the length of the cord tie to hang around your neck by moving the knot. Bag height approx. 5 cms (2 inches), length of cord approx. 28 inches (70 cms). This is a hand crafted item and therefore may vary slightly.
We also have listed a selection of items you may find relevant for your medicine bag as well as some other miscellaneous traditional and contemporary items you may find useful for your professional or personal practice.
